Cody Garbrandt calls for “advance drug testing” ahead of title fight with TJ Dillashaw
Since winning the UFC bantamweight title from Dominick Cruz in the co-main event of December’s UFC 207, Cody Garbrandt has had some interesting ideas for his next fight. He’s called for a rematch with Cruz. He’s called for a “money fight” with featherweight champ Jose Aldo. He’s suggested interest in a super fight with Conor McGregor. He has not, however, expressed much in the way of interest in a fight with the bantamweight division’s indisputable number one contender, TJ Dillashaw.
Late last week, however, news broke that Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw would be coaching the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter against one another. This, of course, implies that they will indeed fight – probably sometime in the first half of 2017.
Now that this matchup is all but confirmed, Garbrandt has taken to Twitter to explain that he wants “advance drug testing” from the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) in the buildup to his fight. While we won’t ready too much into this Tweet, Garbrandt’s inclusion of the ever-suggestive syringe emoji does seem to imply that he doubts Dillashaw is a clean fighter.

It’s worth noting, of course, that both Dillashaw and Garbrandt have entirely clean records as pro mixed martial artists.
Prior to his title-winning defeat of Dominick Cruz, Garbrandt burst into title contention with first-round destructions of Augusto Mendes, Thomas Almeida, and Takeya Mizugaki. Dillashaw, meanwhile, has rebounded from a January 2016 title loss to Cruz with dominant defeats of game contenders in Raphael Assuncao and John Lineker.
At the moment, it is not known when Garbrandt and Dillashaw will collide for the bantamweight strap. Their grudge-infused season of The Ultimate Fighter, has started filming and is expected to air in April.
