Cody Garbrandt Teases a Fight Announcement Soon

It’s crazy how a single number, a single little line can make people obsess so much, but for Cody Garbrandy that number is everything. He’s 11 – 1. That tiny little black line represents his loss to TJ Dillashaw. It represents the man that took his belt. He’s been campaigning to right that wrong ever since it happened in November of last year and he may get his wish soon. Garbrandt just announced that he should have a fight booked soon.

“Tell me one other champion who never defended his belt and got an immediate rematch. He never once ever defended his belt. […] This is a sport. Get back in line, [Cody Garbrandt]. It took me two years to get a title shot off a split-decision loss to Dominick Cruz that the UFC told me they thought I won. It took me two years to get back to that case. Like, I worked my way back. I beat two number one contenders to get there. It’s a sport, you’ve got to push hard and you’ve got to get after it. You can’t complain, you can’t be a sore loser and all this shoulda’, coulda’, woulda’ stuff.” — TJ Dillashaw speaking on The MMA Hour.

No surprises that the former UFC bantamweight champion is gunning for a rematch against TJ Dillashaw. If the current belt holder doesn’t get his superfight with Demetrious Johnson, then that just may happen. However, a big bantamweight contender scrap is going down at UFC Utica on the first of June between unbeaten Jimmie Rivera and former WSOF bantamweight champ Marlon Moraes. The winner of that, if not already deserving of a shot, should get Garbrandt for a number one contender fight.
