TJ Dillashaw calls out Cody Garbrandt: He's different off-camera

bjpenndotcom - February 10, 2017

UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt and former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw certainly have a rather public, and longstanding, feud following Dillashaw’s departure from Team Alpha Male quite some time ago. Leading up to UFC 207, Garbrandt, who was gearing up for his bantamweight title fight with Dominick Cruz, found himself being called out by Dillashaw on social media. Dillashaw claimed to have made Garbrandt quit during practices at Team Alpha Male, which of course resulted in ‘No Love’ firing back in a Tweet of his own, in which he claimed to have knocked Dillashaw out in a training session which Team Alpha Male coach Justin Buchholz allegedly had video footage of.

Later this year, UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt will defend his bantamweight championship for the first time as he steps into the Octagon against former teammate TJ Dillashaw for a highly anticipated scrap. Leading up to Garbrandt’s UFC 207 scrap with Dominick Cruz, former Team Alpha Male teammate TJ Dillashaw took to Twitter to allege that he had made Garbrandt cry in training when the pair trained together at Team Alpha Male. This lead to a back and forth between the two men over the course of the next several weeks as Garbrandt and Dillashaw lobbed insults at one another as Garbrandt claimed to have footage of himself knocking out Dillashaw in training. In addition, ‘No Love’ claimed that he had footage of himself knocking out the former champ. Ultimately, the UFC decided to cash in on the beef and book both men to coach opposite each other on the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter, with the pair meeting in the Octagon for Garbrandt’s bantamweight belt at the end of the season.

Tom Taylor - January 18, 2017

Last month, in the co-main event of the stacked UFC 207, Cody Garbrandt dished out a substantial upset, defeating Dominick Cruz by unanimous decision to win the UFC bantamweight title. Though Garbrandt has issued several callouts in the weeks since this win – including an attempt to goad Cruz into an immediate rematch – we now know that his next challenge will be provided by former champion TJ Dillashaw. Dillashaw, who he used to train with at Team Alpha Male, will serve as his opposing coach on the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter. From there, the two talented bantamweights will throw down with the divisional crown on the line – though a date and location for this scrap has not yet been confirmed.

Tom Taylor - January 17, 2017

Since winning the UFC bantamweight title from Dominick Cruz in the co-main event of December’s UFC 207, Cody Garbrandt has had some interesting ideas for his next fight. He’s called for a rematch with Cruz. He’s called for a “money fight” with featherweight champ Jose Aldo. He’s suggested interest in a super fight with Conor McGregor. He has not, however, expressed much in the way of interest in a fight with the bantamweight division’s indisputable number one contender, TJ Dillashaw. Late last week, however, news broke that Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw would be coaching the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter against one another. This, of course, implies that they will indeed fight – probably sometime in the first half of 2017.

Cody Garbrandt wants to rematch Cruz, cut "snake" TJ Dillashaw's head off

Tom Taylor - January 13, 2017

Cody Garbrandt hasn’t been quiet since he stole the UFC bantamweight title from Dominick Cruz in late December. In the moments after his bantamweight title win, Garbrandt surprised by suggesting he’d like to give Cruz an immediate rematch. Shortly thereafter, he made waves by telling MMA reporter Ariel Helwani that he was interested in a “money fight” with reigning UFC featherweight champ Jose Aldo. Both of these ideas, not surprisingly, drew the ire of TJ Dillashaw, a former bantamweight champion who currently holds the division’s number one contender spot.

TJ Dillashaw on fighting Cody Garbrandt: I'm in his head

Tom Taylor - January 13, 2017

Late last month, in the main event of UFC 207, Cody Garbrandt defeated Dominick Cruz with a unanimous decision, winning the UFC bantamweight title as he did. Earlier that same night, former bantamweight king TJ Dillashaw scored a big win of his own, defeating the highly regarded John Lineker by decision. With his UFC 207 win, Dillashaw seemed to guarantee himself the next shot at Garbrandt – who he used to train with a team Alpha Male. Shortly after the card, however, Garbrandt began to call for a “money fight” with Jose Aldo, unconcerned about leaving Dillashaw out in the cold.

Tom Taylor - January 11, 2017

Cody Garbrandt closed out 2016 in the biggest way possible, defeating Dominick Cruz by unanimous decision to claim the UFC bantamweight throne. With this title-grabbing win, Garbrandt now looks ahead to his first challenge as the bantamweight king. Logic suggests that challenge would be provided by his former training partner TJ Dillashaw, a former champion on a solid, two-fight win-streak. Recently, however, the new champion set his sights on featherweight battles that he deems to be more lucrative, mentioning Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor as possible opponents.

Cody Garbrandt-TJ Dillashaw feud continues as Dillashaw calls champ's bluff

bjpenndotcom - January 10, 2017

While the feud between Team Alpha Male (TAM) and former TAM member TJ Dillashaw has been a very public one, the Cody Garbrandt-TJ Dillashaw feud was reignited at the end of 2016 when undefeated TAM prospect Cody Garbrandt was gearing up for his UFC 207 showdown with Dominick Cruz, and Dillashaw was gearing up for his bantamweight #1 contender fight with John Lineker, which took place at the same event. While the possibility of both men emerging from their fights victorious and fighting one another for the bantamweight championship was certainly a possibility in the minds of fight fans, Dillashaw was one step ahead, already looking to potential set up a potential fight with his former teammate when just hours before the event was set to kick off, he revealed on social media that he had made ‘No Love’ cry during practices at TAM. Garbrandt fired back, hours before his title fight with Cruz, dropping a bombshell as he proclaimed that TAM coach Justin Buchholz had footage of himself knocking Dillashaw out in training. Dillashaw of course refuted the claims, which resulted in a back-and-forth war of words between the two men. Following Garbrandt’s masterful win over Cruz, and Dillashaw’s dominant win over Lineker, the two men have continued to trade shots on social media.

In that bantamweight title fight, his former training partner Cody Garbrandt shocked the world by upsetting Dominick Cruz. During an appearance on Monday’s episode of the MMA Hour, Dillashaw weighed in on Garbrandt’s masterful performance, and despite what is often reported as a strained relationship between them, was quite complimentary his former training partner.

EXCLUSIVE | TJ Dillashaw coach Duane Ludwig: Cody should be getting the next crack at TJ

Tom Taylor - January 6, 2017

Last Friday, on the main card of UFC 207, TJ Dillashaw coach Duane Ludwig watched his star pupil score a lopsided win over John Lineker, the bantamweight division’s number-two ranked fighter. Logic would suggest that with this win, Dillashaw guaranteed himself at the UFC bantamweight title he once owned, which is now held by Cody Garbrandt. The widely applauded TJ Dillashaw coach, however, isn’t sure what the future holds. While he hopes his fighter will get the next shot at gold, he is far from trusting of the UFC’s current matchmaking strategy.

Cody Garbrandt is not opposed to a fight with "sellout" TJ Dillashaw

Tom Taylor - January 6, 2017

After his UFC 207 defeat of Dominick Cruz, new UFC bantamweight champ Cody Garbrandt claimed that he’d like to fight current featherweight champ Jose Aldo next. Given that Garbrandt’s fighting Aldo would deprive TJ Dillashaw of the bantamweight title shot he’s so clearly earned, this assertion was met with some criticism. Luckily for Dillashaw, Garbrandt has backtracked a bit, saying he’d happily defend the title against him.
