Perennial UFC welterweight contender Kamaru Usman may have served as the backup for tonight’s UFC 228 welterweight title fight, but it will be Colby Covington who gets to fight the winner of Darren Till vs. Tyron Woodley.

The current UFC interim welterweight title holder, Colby Covington (14-1 MMA), will apparently be stripped of his title the moment the first strike is thrown in tonight’s UFC 228 main event.

With that said, “Chaos” has not lost his spot atop the UFC’s stacked welterweight division, as UFC President Dana White confirmed to BT Sport that Colby Covington is going to get the next title shot against the winner of tonight’s Tyron Woodley vs. Darren Till championship contest.

“Colby Covington is going to get the next shot,” White said. “Usman got the opportunity (as a backup) because Covington is hurt.”

Colby Covington captured the UFC interim welterweight title this past June in Chicago when he defeated former lightweight title holder Rafael dos Anjos via unanimous decision at UFC 225.
