UFC President Dana White says the UFC is still keen to book a welterweight fight between top-5 contenders Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington in 2021. Covington and Masvidal, the No. 1 and 4-ranked welterweight contenders respectively, have been linked to a potential fight for months, but as of yet, the matchup has not come to fruition.

Covington and Masvidal used to be good friends and training partners at American Top Team in Florida, but over the years, their friendship has curdled. Today, they’re arguably the most heated rivals in all of MMA.

UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington claims that Jorge Masvidal won’t sign the UFC’s contract to fight him due to a “bad style matchup.” Covington and Masvidal were former teammates and friends at American Top Team, but they are heated rivals these days. With both men gunning for a title shot against UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, they will likely have to go through one another in order to get another crack at Usman and his belt. There have been whispers that the UFC would like to match up Covington and Masvidal for early 2021 and possibly have them serve as coaches on “The Ultimate Fighter,” but so far, the fight has not been booked.

Colby Covington trashed former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis ahead of tonight’s UFC Vegas 17 event. ‘Showtime’ is set to return to the Octagon this evening for a welterweight bout with Alex Morono. With that said, ‘Chaos’ believes fight fans should be throwing their money down on ‘The Great White’, as Pettis is apparently “washed up” (via Instagram).

UFC welterweight contender Jorge Masvidal has taken a shot at rival Colby Covington’s feud with LeBron James in a recent social media post. Masvidal and Covington, who used to be close friends and training partners, are now expected to square off in early 2021 with the expectation being that the winner will get another crack at divisional champion Kamaru Usman later in the year.

Right away it must be stated that Covington vs. Masvidal is just a rumor at this point and not a confirmed matchup by the UFC, but all signs are pointing towards the promotion booking this bout for 2021. Covington and Masvidal do not like each other and with both men looking to get a rematch with UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, a No. 1 contender bout between these two makes all the sense in the world. In his most previous efforts, ‘The Chosen One’ had suffered unanimous decision losses to Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns respectively.
