Speaking on the latest episode of BJ Penn Radio, Colby Covington explained why he, not Rafael dos Anjos, deserves the next crack at Tyron Woodley.

The news is still everywhere. Former queen of the UFC Ronda Rousey is now the latest WWE superstar. She’s moved on to make big moves in another arena of sports entertainment. One UFC welterweight who isn’t a stranger to the theatrics of pro wrestling or the ring itself, is Colby Covington. He’s walked the ends of the Earth calling out Tyron Woodley, even on air at Impact Wrestling after he and American Top Team co-founder invaded the promotion with teammates. Not only does the controversial fighter support Rousey’s move, but wants to follow in her footsteps. “I think it was a great move for [Ronda Rousey]. She wasn’t gonna win anymore fights, so she’s gotta do something that she can win in, so maybe pro wrestling’s that. I think it was a great move. I think she’s done well for herself and she’s gonna make some good money over there. The thing is, I hope she don’t f-ck it up for the MMA fighters, because I’m the people following in those footsteps. I’ma be over there in WWE, taking the world title soon. I hope she doesn’t act all shy and do all that weird stuff, you know? She needs to be who she is and who she used to be in the UFC when she was the champ.”

You and I are destined to do this forever. That’s what the Joker said to Batman in Christopher Nolan’s acclaimed film The Dark Knight. This seems to be the same message that Colby Covington wants to send to UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. He’s been calling him out and calling him out over and over to no avail after beating Demian Maia. Now, potentially being passed up by Rafael dos Anjos, Covington isn’t about to back down. If the UFC needs to sell tickets and rack up pay-per-view buys, Covington claims they have to put him in the fight. “I just don’t get why they want to do [Rafael dos Anjos]. It’s not a money fight. Tyron [Woodley] wants to be the hero, so if he wants to be the hero, he needs to come fight me. I’m the villain. I’m the bad guy of the division. I’m the most hated guy in the division. If you want fans to like you — fans hate Tyron right now, because he’s being fake. He’s being two-faced. He’s saying all this stuff and he doesn’t really mean it. He’s not being truthful. That’s why the fans are liking me right now because what I’m saying is real. […] I just don’t get why he doesn’t see that I’m the money fight. He’s not going to get [Nate] Diaz, he’s not going to get [Georges St-Pierre], Conor [McGregor] isn’t even in question.”

Kamaru Usman is frustrated to say the least. He’s campaigned for the better part of a year for higher ranked names to test himself against, but the fights never got booked. All of the big fights he’s wanted have either passed him by for some reason or another, or have been taken by Colby Covington. So, make no mistake that going into his fight this Sunday against Emil Meek, he’s going to fight the man who was willing to step up, but he’s not taking his eyes off of bigger things. Sooner or later, he believes he and Covington will have to fight. Not just because the natural progression of the rankings, but because it is written in the book of fate. “It’s a fight that has to happen. It’s a fight that has to happen because I believe this is fate. This fight has been written. How much of a small world do we live in? I was a little boy born in Auchi, Nigera, in a country full of over 200 million people, in a small farm town. To get to the point where I immigrate here, I’m in America, to where I get to college and I cross paths with the people that I have. Let’s just summarize this a little bit: Me and Jon Jones crossed paths senior year of high school. We met at senior nationals, a big wrestling tournament, and after that, we became friends. ‘Hey, I’m going to go to school in Iowa next year.’ He said, ‘I’m going to go to school in Iowa [too].’ That’s great. We stayed in touch.”

Welterweight is absolutely insane right now, with Tyron Woodley as the undisputed king and Colby Covington causing chaos at every turn. Former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos upset former welterweight belt holder Robbie Lawler, supposedly earning a title shot. However, that’s not the direction the UFC is going in according to Chael Sonnen. It looks like the report of Woodley possibly coaching the newest season of The Ultimate Fighter along with Covington is still going around, giving Covington the shot he’s rallied for relentlessly.

Last weekend, in the main event of UFC on Fox 26, former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos authored a dominant, unanimous decision win over Robbie Lawler, asserting himself as one of the welterweight division’s top contenders in the process. This win seemed to impress the majority of the MMA community, but don’t count surging welterweight contender Colby Covington as part of that group. “I thought RDA looked slow,” Covington said of Dos Anjos’ win on the latest episode of BJ Penn Radio. “He looked old, man. He looked like the same guy that I’ve been calling out since [the UFC’s June stop in] Singapore. They had to put him on my undercard when I was on the main card because he didn’t want to fight me, and he’s been ducking me for a while. He knows what’ll happen if we fight. He’ll get a young buck who hasn’t been tested, a guy who hasn’t had all those miles on his chin.”

However, his antics have drawn more attention than from just the UFC welterweight champion, he basically has an entire nation of Brazilians angry at him. Chael Sonnen recently opened up about his kindred-spirit in trash talk, Colby Covington, praising the surging contender while condemning Werdum. “I love [Colby Covington]. I think he’s a ton of fun and what [Fabricio] Werdum did was a scumbag move. This is the second time Werdum has done this, don’t forget. Last time we saw him get into somebody, it was 155-pound Tony Ferguson. It was just really weird. That’s my piece on that. As far as Colby goes, listen, if you wanna make an omelet you’ve got to crack a few eggs. Over the last few months, Colby Covington has been sharpening his tools not just as a mixed martial artist, but as a pro wrestler. While it’s no surprise that his experience in MMA is translating well into the pro wrestling world, he’s also finding that his forays into pro-wrestling world could be beneficial to his MMA career. “Just slowing everything down,” Covington said on the latest episode of BJ Penn Radio when asked about the keys to success in pro wrestling. “When you’re out there, in front of a crowd, and you got a camera right in front of your face, you want to just go, go go. But, that’s not how you do it in the pro wrestling. That’s not how it works in that business. You have to be able to slow things down and really sell it. Like, if you’re doing a move, you know, you got to really sell it. You got to sell the expression and the emotion, so, just slowing things down, you know? And, I think that’s going to really help me out for MMA fighting in general, just to be patient and wait for your moment.”
