Last night, video surfaced of a heated confrontation between surging UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington and UFC Sydney headliner Fabricio Werdum. In this video, Covington claimed that the former heavyweight champ Werdum sucker punched him. In a subsequent statement to FloCombat, Werdum assured Covington was the aggressor and that he did not throw a punch. A video from UFC lightweight Dan Hooker, finally, showed Werdum throwing a boomerang at Covington.

Last night, video surfaced of a heated confrontation between top UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington and former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum. In this video, Covington claimed that Werdum had punched him, and went off on the Brazilian in a heated tirade. “Look at this clown. You’re a f*cking clown Fabricio Werdum,” Covington said in the video (h/t FloCombat). “What’s up? You just punched me in the face. You wanna come punch me again bitch? What? What? Yea, you think you’re so tough. Look at you, you f*cking fa*got. Yea, that’s right, you’re a little bitch. What? Hey, yea [I’ll] see you soon. [I’ll] see you soon motherf*cker. You’re old motherf*cker, you ain’t shit.”

Just when you thought it was safe to go to a UFC meet and greet. Colby Covington and Fabricio Werdum are both in Sydney, Australia and put on a show for everyone, the remnants of only exist from an Instagram live video rip. According to Covington, the video starts right after Werdum suckerpunched him without warning. Although, his actions could probably be traced back to his comments about the people of Brazil in his post-fight speech after defeating Demian Maia. What happened next is Covington going completely off in a verbal rant against Werdum which is sure to offend a lot of people. Don’t know the full details yet but hearing that there was an altercation in Australia between Colby Covington and Fabricio Werdum and it got physical. Still waiting to find out more or what exactly happened.

Surging welterweight contender Colby Covington has spent much of the last year talking trash about current welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. When Covington authored a career-best win over Demian Maia late last month, his verbal assault on Woodley picked up even more steam. On Monday, the trend continued, as Covington took to Instagram to offer Woodley a bit of a reminder. In this post, Covington told Woodley, who has been criticized for the tepid nature of his last few wins, that his job is to put his opponents to sleep, not the fans.

According to Covington, the two MMA stars were college roommates from 2007-2009 at Iowa Central Community College where they both won junior college national wrestling titles together. Colby Covington is not letting up on Tyron Woodley. Whether it is in the Octagon, on social media, in the grocery store, or at Impact Wrestling, Covington has been challenging Woodley left and right. It’s exactly what a guy coming off the biggest win of his career against Demian Maia should be doing. All of these words aren’t just for promotion purposes though, Colby Covington vows that his beef with Woodley is as real as it gets. “There’s not going to be any friendly terms [between me an Tyron Woodley]. This is not talk, this is not something that we’re promoting, this is real legitimate beef. We have an actual feud. If I see that dude in the streets, we’re going to be throwing blows and he’s going to be face down unconscious on the concrete. So, I have no respect for Tyron Woodley. The guy’s a piece of sh-t. He tries to claim all this sh-t. The guy, I mean, this is the type of dude he is, that he brings out these coaches for training camp, like four or five different coaches, and then he doesn’t pay them when he makes agreements that he’s going to pay them a percentage of his fight purse. So that tells you what kind of person Tyron Woodley is. So, I don’t respect that person.”

If there is one guy you can’t knock about being persistent, it’s Colby Covington. He’s gone to the ends of the Earth and back to get a title shot against Tyron Woodley, this time he’s ventured where no MMA fighter has ever gone before to call out a UFC fighter. Covington has been one of many fighters storming Impact Wrestling with American Top Team co-founder Dan Lambert. They granted him some time on the mic backstage and he did what any good pro wrestling heel does: Call out the champion and trash him on the mic.    “Man, the guy is making all these excuses. [Tyron Woodley] doesn’t want to tell the world the real reason he doesn’t want to fight me. The real reason Tyron Woodley doesn’t want to fight me is because the last time we were in the gym together, I broke him. And I’ll do the same thing in front of the world when we fight for that welterweight champions, Tyron Woodley. January makes sense, you know. They’re doing a UFC in St Louis, his hometown, so let’s see if he can defend the home turf.”

American Top Team owner Dan Lambert is not fond of his own ATT fighter, Colby Covington trash talking Tyron Woodley in the manner he has been doing. Lambert and Woodley have a history together as they have been friends for years and also with Woodley owning an ATT affiliate in Missouri.

After dominating Demian Maia to a unanimous decision, and setting the MMA community on fire with a heated post-fight speech, Colby Covington believes he’s ready for a title fight with welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. And while Woodley has been dismissive of this possibility, Covington believes the champ needs him far more than he knows. “It only makes sense,” Covington said of his possible title shot on the latest episode of BJ Penn Radio. “Me and Tyron Woodley for the world championship, first quarter next year in St. Louis, Missouri. Tyron Woodley needs me. Tyron Woodley is not a likeable guy, he fights like shit, he’s boring, no one wants to see him fight unless he’s fighting a guy like me who a lot of people hate. All of Brazil hates me. You know, so he needs me. He needs a bad guy where people are going to team up on his side and actually believe in him and want to root for him because no one wants to root for Tyron Woodley, that guy’s not a draw, he’s a joke. He needs Colby “Chaos” Covington versus Tyron Woodley in St. Louis, first quarter of next year.”

If it’s attention Colby Covington wanted, attention he got. He took out former UFC welterweight title challenger Demian Maia, trashed Brazil, called out Tyron Woodley, and later spoke out against American Top Team co-founder Ricardo Liborio. Ben Saunders, fellow welterweight and ATT member, didn’t take too kindly to any of Covington’s comments. Matter of fact, he got super heated and decided to get some stuff off his chest. UFC Fight Night 119 took place in Sao Paulo, Brazil over the weekend. Colby Covington made a lot of noise there in Brazil after beating the most recent UFC welterweight title challenger, Demian Maia. Covington lashed out at the fans in Brazil and made some people upset, despite later explaining he is just having fun with promoting himself.

No matter what crazy stuff he said, you can’t deny that Colby Covington backed it up by taking out Demian Maia at UFC Sao Paulo. He may be in some hot water, but he made the most out of his time on the mic and called out Tyron Woodley to challenge for his UFC welterweight title. Woodley is out with a shoulder injury and is slated to fight the winner between Robbie Lawler and Rafael dos Anjos, but didn’t hesitate to throw some shade at Covington. “My shoulder’s not what it should be, but this past weekend there was a couple of people bumping their gums about fighting and I was like, you know what? I could actually beat this person with my shoulder the way that it is. So, could I fight and compete? Yes. Would it be very smart especially with your belt on the line, you know, with several figures on the line? Probably not. So, I was trying to go the route of maybe doing a stem cell, doing a PRP [platelet-rich plasma injection] instead of the surgery and just kind of rehabbing it, seeing how strong I can get it first so I can make that decision.”

Yesterday afternoon American Top Team co-founder Ricardo Liborio took to Instagram with a post that announced his departure from the gym, and also condemned the recent anti-Brazil comments of ATT staple Colby Covington. I feel that I must make a statement in light of the comments made by Colby Convigton along with the amount of messages sent to me from Brazil, the United States, and from all over the world. I’m here to state that I am no longer with American Top Team. Also, I absolutely do not condone any behavior that instigates hate, prejudice, or bullying of any kind. It upsets me to see the sport taking this direction of blatant disrespect. It’s unsportsmanlike, but it also fosters and promotes a culture of cruelty towards others. Combat Sports should always represent the qualities of humility, empathy, and respect. I dedicated my life to the Martial arts, and to the formation and growth of this team. I can not discuss at this time the reasons for my departure from ATT. At some point, I will. For the time being, I want the members of ATT to know that they will always be in my heart❤

Colby Covington had a wild time in Brazil. Moments after his unanimous decision win over Demian Maia was announced, the red-hot welterweight went off on the country, calling it a “a dump” and referring to its citizens as “filthy animals.” Unsurprisingly, the people of Brazil weren’t happy with Covington’s remarks. The UFC, meanwhile immediately feared for his safety. As such, he was apparently put on “lockdown” from the moment these comments left his mouth until he reached the airport.

Last weekend, in the co-main event of the UFC’s action-packed return to Sao Paulo, Brazil, surging UFC welterweight Colby Covington picked up the biggest win of his career thus far, defeating Demian Maia with a dominant unanimous decision. As impressive as Covington’s win was, however, it has been somewhat overshadowed by his headline-dominating his post-fight speech. In this speech, Covington referred to Brazil as “a dump,” and its residents as “filthy animals.” What followed was a wave of controversy. On Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour, Covington’s friend and training partner Jorge Masvidal jumped to his defense, assuring that there’s no reason to be upset about this post-fight speech.

Earlier this month, we learned that streaking welterweight contender Kamaru Usman had been paired with Norwegian knockout artist Emil Meek for a fight at UFC 219. Now, however, Usman is claiming this bout is in jeopardy, as Meek might not be able to make it to the event. Usman also claims the UFC has reached out to Colby Covington to replace Meek.
