Conor McGregor could vacate featherweight championship with UFC 196 win

It’s no secret that Conor McGregor has a tough weight cut when dropping to featherweight. In a recent article we compared McGregor’s size prior to his fight with Jose Aldo to before his UFC 196 fight with Nate Diaz.

During the UFC 196 weigh-ins yesterday, McGregor weighed in at 168 pounds, 2 pounds lower than the 170 pound welterweight cap.

Dana White spoke to MMAJunkie to discuss why he believes McGregor could vacate the featherweight championship with a win over Diaz on Saturday night.

“I think if he wins impressively tomorrow he doesn’t even go back to 145 – that’s what I think. That weight cut is horrible for him. He looks terrible. I’m sure he feels terrible. I think he stays at 170 if he wins tomorrow.”

That comes on the heels of Dana White being okay with a Robbie Lawler vs. Conor McGregor superfight at UFC 200 if McGregor wins at UFC 196.
