Boxer who helped Conor McGregor train weighs-in on Mayweather fight

Prior to Conor McGregor‘s highly anticipated rematch with Nate Diaz, which was initially scheduled for UFC 200, McGregor enlisted the help of South African boxing champion Chris Van Heerden, a tall southpaw, to help him prepare for his rematch with Diaz given Diaz’ boxing skills.

The training between the two men went well, however after the fact, McGregor posted footage of the session, with him getting the better of the South African champ in the footage posted. With that being said, Van Heerden then posted unedited footage from the sparring session to social media showing him getting the better of McGregor.

He then gave an interview to World Boxing News regarding the sparring footage, saying:

“Conor is a great MMA fighter but boxing is the sweet science and in that particular class, I’m the professor to him,” Van Heerden exclusively told World Boxing News.

“I tagged him effortlessly during sparring, he knows it and I know it. There’s no way he takes a fight against me because he knows it’s lose-lose for him.”

Fast forward a year later to now, with a Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather matchup official for August 26th in Las Vegas, Van Heerden has taken to social media to weigh in on the Mayweather-McGregor fight:

Interestingly enough, While McGregor stands at 5’9 with a 74 inch reach, Mayweather is listed as being 5’8 with a 72 inch reach. With that being said, Van Heerden also stands at 5’8 and is listed as having a 72 inch reach, identical to Mayweather in terms of build. With that being said however, Van Heerden of course is a southpaw, while Mayweather is an Orthodox fighter.
