Coach Kavanagh: UFC is ‘going too far’ by keeping Conor McGregor off the New York card
Conor McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh was a guest on yesterday’s edition of The MMA Hour where he spoke to host Ariel Helwani about the recent standoff between the UFC and his pupil “Mystic Mac”.
McGregor had recently stated on Twitter that he was “back on” July’s UFC 200 fight card. However, UFC president Dana White quickly addressed McGregor’s tweet saying that it was not true.
During Friday’s UFC 200 press conference, Dana White stated that McGregor was not only out of UFC 200, but that the Irish superstar would not be competing at November’s big debut event in New York.
While Kavanagh admits McGregor has been rather “bold” as of late, he feels the UFC keeping Conor from fighting in New York is “going to far”. His words:
“That was hard to hear,” McGregor’s coach told Ariel Helwani on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour. “I really think that’s going too far. [McGregor] was bold, but it wasn’t anything that bad. If we get the slap on the wrist for 200, we definitely can’t be put on the naughty [list] for New York.”
He continued:
“As an Irish guy in New York, the first card in Madison Square Garden, I think Conor would show up anyway and fight someone in a changing room if [White] doesn’t put him on the card,” Kavanagh said. “We have to be put on the New York card.”
