Conor McGregor no longer double champ on UFC website, Jose Aldo back
It was stated numerous times by UFC President Dana White that Conor McGregor would have to vacate a title if he won the UFC lightweight belt against Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205.
“If he wins, he’ll hold two belts,” White said prior to UFC 205 taking place. “Then he’ll decide which one he wants to give back to me. He can’t hold both. He’ll have accomplished this. Then he’ll have to figure out which one he wants to give up. He can’t hold up two divisions.”
Even with the conditions being clear before “The Notorious” became the first fighter in history to hold two UFC division’s titles simultaneously, many people were shocked when the UFC announced on the UFC Fight Night 101 broadcast that McGregor relinquished the UFC featherweight title. With “The Notorious” relinquishing the 145-pound title, Jose Aldo was promoted from the interim featherweight champion to the undisputed UFC featherweight champion.
Max Holloway and Anthony Pettis are now set to fight in a five-round interim featherweight title fight in the main event of UFC 206 on December 10.
Aldo will surely be interested to see the outcome of Holloway vs. Pettis as the winner will be his next opponent.
The UFC website has been updated to show that McGregor is no longer listed as the champion of the UFC’s featherweight division and now has Aldo as the champion of the 145-pound division. However, McGregor does sit right next to Aldo as the undisputed champion of the UFC lightweight division.
