Conor McGregor: Retirement Tweet was a negotiation tactic
Following UFC 196, where Nate Diaz submitted Conor McGregor, the pair were slated to fight in the main event of UFC 200. McGregor wasn’t happy with the situation, and surprised the MMA community when he retired via Twitter.
The fight was ultimately scrapped after McGregor refused to fulfill his promotional obligations for the event. Ultimately however, the pair were rebooked to fight at UFC 202 in August.
Now, Paul Dollery, who co-wrote “Win or Learn’ by McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh, revealed that McGregor’s retirement Tweet was merely a negotiation tactic which backfired when it was picked up by CNN.
The retirement tweet 'was a negotiation tactic… and then it ended up on CNN.'
