Conor McGregor sends his advice to fighters perturbed by UFC title shot woes and contracts
We have seen a recent influx in fighters publically addressing their displeasure with the UFC’s matchmaking, especially in some recent title fight in addition to issues regarding contracts.
Current UFC interim featherweight champion Jose Aldo recently expressed his request to be released from his contract with the UFC after it was announced that featherweight champion Conor McGregor would be challenging Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight title.
Khabib Nurmagomedov has also stated that if he does not fight for the UFC lightweight title after a win at UFC 205, he will never fight for the UFC again and will make sure the promotion never enters his home country of Russia to host an event.
UFC bantamweight Juliana Pena also stated her strong disliking to the news of Ronda Rousey getting a title shot against Amanda Nunes and is considering fighting for another promotion.
As far as contract issues go, Georges St-Pierre has been buzzing in the headlines after he claimed he was no longer under contract with the UFC with the help of his legal team. On top of that, Al Iaquinta has apparently retired from MMA and switched over to a career in real estate after failed contract negotiations.
Conor McGregor is one man who knows a bit about negotiations with the UFC. “The Notorious” gave his bit of advice for those stating their unhappinness with the UFC speaking with Sports Illustrated via phone call.
“Tell me one time that crying and moaning, tell me one time that’s good for progression. It’s not,” he told SI. “Where would you be if I wasn’t here? Be grateful that you’re even in the conversation.
“Keep your head down, keep working, stay focused, stay positive, that’s the way to go forward. Not crying, moaning, complaining. I can’t engage in that. I wish them well, but I’m on something different here.”
