Conor McGregor weighs in on a potential trilogy bout with Nate Diaz

Most fight fans would love to see a trilogy bout between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz put together by UFC officials.

The rivals first met at March’s UFC 196 event in Las Vegas, this after Nate Diaz stepped up on short-notice to fill in for Rafael dos Anjos (the promotions lightweight champion at the time), who was forced to pull out of his scheduled super-fight with Conor McGregor due to an injury.

The bout took place in the UFC’s welterweight division of 170-pounds, as Diaz did not have the necessary time to cut down to his usual weight class of lightweight (155-pounds).

Nate would ultimately shock the world in the headliner of March’s UFC 196 event as he was able to score a second-round submission (rear-naked choke) victory over Conor McGregor, marking the first loss of “Mystic Mac’s” UFC career.

Following his first career setback under the Zuffa fight banner, Conor McGregor became admittedly obsessed with avenging his loss to Nate and so the pair were eventually scheduled to rematch in the headliner of UFC 202 this past August in Las Vegas.

There second encounter turned out to be nothing short of a war, as Diaz and McGregor duked it out for five rounds in a back and forth blood spattering affair.

In the end, Conor McGregor was awarded a majority decision from the judges, thus evening up the score between himself and the “Stockton Slugger”.

The current UFC featherweight champion, McGregor, did a Facebook interview with The LAD Bible on Friday and was asked if he thought a potential trilogy fight with Nate Diaz might happen. Conor responded with the following:

“I think potentially so. The more I think about it Nate is going to be… There was a lot of damage done to Nathan in that last fight. You know looking at his face it just didn’t look the same. I know those close to him will understand what I am talking about. So there could be a potential fight maybe down the line for the lightweight belt after I win this one. To see him have to make the weight. And then to see the damage that he took in the last fight and then come in at a much lower weight.. It wouldn’t end good for him. So I’d imagine and I would probably hope that his people close to him would stop him from doing it. It’s done now. Cash your money and bounce.”
