Today, Conor McGregor appeared in court to face the music for his infamous rampage in Brooklyn, New York. As MMA Fighting reports, McGregor’s court appearance was brief, as he and his cohort Cian Cowley promptly informed the court that they intend to negotiate a plea deal. With this development, McGregor is set to return to court on July 26, where he and Cowley’s representation will enter said plea.

Speaking after today’s court proceedings, a member of McGregor’s legal team presented a statement from the Irish MMA star, which was obtained by Ariel Helwani.

“I regret my actions that led to today,” the statement read. “I understand the seriousness of this matter and I’m hopeful this will get worked out. Thank you, everyone.”

Helwani also spoke to Conor McGregor’s manager Audie Attar, who would not divulge the details of the plea deal, or what might come next for the Irish star.

“Today we’re here to focus on court, we’re not going to focus on any future plans until we handle this matter,” Attar said. ”Right now we’re in good negotiations with the district attorney, so we’re going to focus on that and we’ll focus on the future later.

During his frenzied rampage in Brooklyn, McGregor and several members of his entourage launched an attack on a shuttle bus carrying a number of fighters on the UFC 223 bill — including his rival, new UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. This rampage reached a violent crescendo when McGregor threw a dolly through the window of the bus, injuring UFC 223 fighters Michael Chiesa and Ray Borg.
