Given that Mayweather owns an incredible pro boxing record of 49-0, while McGregor has never competed as a boxer, it’s easy to understand why Mayweather has opened as such a stark betting underdog (he is sitting at +700 to Mayweather’s -1100, according to 5dimes).

Despite his status as a significant underdog, however, McGregor is apparently positive that he’ll defeat the legendary boxer this August. This per UFC President Dana White, who appeared on SportsCenter to discuss the fight shortly after it was announced as official.

“He is absolutely 100 percent positive that he wins this fight,” White said (h/t) MMAFighting.com. “I stopped doubting Conor McGregor a long time ago.”

White also explained that, contrary to widespread perceptions, negotiations for this history-making fight were quite simple.

“Negotiations went smooth,” he said. “Floyd is surrounded by some smart people and we got this thing done. The impossible deal is now done.”

“I don’t think anybody is bummed out about this deal,” he continued. “The negotiations with Floyd were great. Everything went smooth with Conor. It went a lot easier than I thought it would go and everybody is walking away from this thing happy.”

And when McGregor deposits a check for upwards of $100 million in his bank account, will he ever return to the far less lucrative world of MMA? According to White, yes. In fact, the Irishman hopes to fight for the UFC again before the year’s out.

“That’s one of the million reasons why people love Conor McGregor,” White said.
