Dana White details the “worst conversation” with Conor McGregor

By Tom Taylor - April 6, 2018

Yesterday afternoon, Conor McGregor arrived at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York—the host venue for UFC 223—and all hell broke loose. Reportedly seeking vengeance for Khabib Nurmagomedov’s heated run-in with his friend Artem Lobov, the Irishman and his henchmen attacked a bus containing a number of UFC 223 fighters.

In video footage of the fracas, McGregor could be seen pelting the bus with whatever he could get his hands on, including a dolly, which he used to smash the back window of the vehicle. In addition to the significant property damage caused, McGregor’s rampage injured a few fighters, including Michael Chiesa and Ray Borg, who were ultimately forced out of their UFC 223 contests as a result.

After some confusion about whether or not McGregor was in NYPD custody, the Irishman ultimately turned himself in last night. As expected, he’s been hit with a bevy of charges.

At present, McGregor’s future is murky. It’s unknown how he’ll be punished, and beyond that, whether he’ll ever fight again.

Whatever the case, UFC President Dana White says he has spoken with the Irish star. As expected, however, it was a bad conversation.

“Conor and I talked through text yesterday,” White said on First Things First last night. “Probably the worst conversation we’ve had, but yeah, we talked yesterday before he turned himself in.”

White later offered a bit more insight into their conversation. Apparently, they didn’t actually talk about McGregor’s rampage, but instead argued about the language White used in a subsequent interview with ESPN.

“Obviously, we didn’t have a good conversation yesterday, and it wasn’t really about the situation. He said that might interview with ESPN [in which I discussed the ordeal]… he wasn’t happy with my interview. So we got into more about that.”
