Dana White explains what will happen if Conor McGregor kicks Floyd Mayweather in boxing match

This August 26, UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor will step into the boxing ring with undefeated pugilist Floyd Mayweather Jr for a 12-round, 154-pound boxing match. The fight is likely to go down as the biggest in the history of combat sports, and it is sure to make all parties involved much, much richer.

While McGregor is certain to make a fortune for this fight. he is likely to have a very difficult time winning it. Mayweather, after all, is 49-0 as a pro boxer, while McGregor has never competed professionally in the boxing ring.

The interesting thing is that McGregor is clearly the better fighter overall. Were he and Mayweather to meet in under the much more open ruleset of mixed martial arts, Mayweather would likely not escape the first round.

This fact has led many to speculate as to what might happen if McGregor chose to make this fight ugly and throw a knee, elbow or kick. According to UFC President Dana White, however, McGregor’s doing so would be incredibly unwise, as it would result in serious financial punishment.

“That [kicking] will not happen; it’s in the contract,” White told Martin Domin of the Mirror. “This is a boxing match under the Nevada commission under the rules of boxing. We talk about a guy of Floyd Mayweather’s value in the sport—the lawsuit if that ever happened…Conor loves money and he would lose a lot of money if that happened.“
