Dana White reacts to Conor McGregor appearing on Game of Thrones

HBO’s hit series ‘Game of Thrones’ is currently gearing up to release the seventh season of the highly anticipated show in 2017. Interestingly enough, news surfaced earlier this week that during his 10 month hiatus from the Octagon, UFC superstar Conor McGregor will be joining the cast of the hit show for one of the two remaining seasons.

During a recent appearance on Fox Sports Live, UFC President Dana White confirmed that McGregor would indeed be appearing on the show:

“I did hear that. I knew a few months ago that they were interested in putting (McGregor) in the show,” White said in an appearance with Fox Sports Live. “I’m glad he did it. It will be great. The show is huge. It’s awesome, and I’m excited for him.”

Conor McGregor of course recently defeated UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez via second round TKO at UFC 205 to claim the lightweight championship, becoming the first simultaneous two-division UFC champion in the promotion’s history. In addition, McGregor became just the second man in the history of the promotion to win titles in two divisions. Following his win, McGregor revealed his intentions to defend both belts, and reign as a simultaneous two-division champion despite the fact that UFC President Dana White had repeatedly stated that McGregor must vacate one of the belts if victorious at UFC 205.

Unfortunately for the self proclaimed “champ champ” after UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier withdrew from his UFC 206 main event scrap with Anthony Johnson, McGregor relinquished the featherweight title after the UFC announced that the co-main event scrap between Max Holloway & Anthony Pettis had been promoted to the main event, and made to be an interim featherweight title fight. Subsequently, interim UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo was promoted to the undisputed featherweight champion after McGregor vacated the title.

Following the announcement, it was revealed that McGregor would be taking 10 months off from fighting due to the upcoming birth of his child, before he returns to defend his 155 pound title.
