Dana White says Conor McGregor is not fighting at UFC 205, gives an opponent for Alvarez
The world is all waiting for the return of UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor, even with the Irishman having just fought in August and getting revenge on Nate Diaz at UFC 202.
While many were thinking that “The Notorious” would be fighting Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight title in New York at UFC 205, Dana White released some information on Twitter late Tuesday.
A fan asked White, “Mcgregor vs Alvarez #ufc205 @danawhite confirm or deny @TheNotoriousMMA @Ealvarezfight”

White replied, “@kylemuir17 @TheNotoriousMMA @Ealvarezfight not true it’s @TeamKhabib”

With White saying that Alvarez will be meeting Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight title, one can only assume that McGregor will be dropping back down to featherweight to defend his title against interim featherweight champion Jose Aldo. MMA insider @TalkMMA tweeted recently that the issue with booking the fight with Alvarez was that McGregor did not want to give up his featherweight title with his mission of becoming the first simultaneous two-weight UFC world champion.
Nothing has been made official or stated by White or the UFC regarding McGregor or Aldo’s next fight as of yet.
