Dana White to Conor McGregor: “You’re right!”
At the UFC 196 press conference recently Conor McGregor wasn’t pleased with the fight poster for the event.
McGregor expressed his dissatisfaction with the UFC’s poster department, saying he would have to go down there to have a conversation with whoever designed the fight poster. UFC President Dana White explained that the reason McGregor’s belt was left out of the poster was due to the fact that he was going up to lightweight to challenge Rafael dos Anjos for the lightweight belt, and his featherweight championship wasn’t on the line.
Earlier this week the UFC released the official fight poster for the event, and surprisingly McGregor’s belt was featured on the poster.
UFC President Dana White spoke to MMAFighting to explain why the poster was changed:
“Conor made his argument, ‘This is a superfight. I’m a [145]-pound champion. He’s the [155]-pound champion. My belt should be represented even though I’m not defending my belt.’
“And I said, ‘You know what? You’re right, Conor. All right, we’ll do it.”
“We actually switched the poster and they’ve both got their belts and it’s champion vs. champion,” said White. “It’s a superfight: 45 vs. 55 for the 55-pound title.”
