Former boxing champion Paul Malignaggi calls out Conor McGregor
This week news surfaced that UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor had been given a boxing license in California, which added quite a bit of fuel to the rumors regarding a potential Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather boxing match.
Despite McGregor’s dominance inside the Octagon, and the fact that he was recently crowned the first ever simultaneous two-division UFC champion when he TKOd Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, the NSAC denied his request for a boxing license until he can prove that he is qualified as a boxer to have one. With that being said however, the California State Athletic Commission has granted McGregor a boxing license, which theoretically would give him the ability to take a boxing fight in California in order to prove his qualifications to the NSAC, which would then result in him being approved for a boxing license in Nevada.
On the heels of the announcement that McGregor had been granted a boxing license in California, former WBA, WBO, IBF, and WBC boxing champion Paul Malignaggi took to Twitter to call out McGregor:
If the Floyd talk is serious you gotta test the waters against a decently recognizable n respectable name right? My teams phone will be on. https://t.co/53KetmHTV0

Malignaggi, who has shared the ring with notable boxers such as Amir Khan, Ricky Hatton, and Miguel Cotto to name just a few, is currently riding a 3-fight win streak that has seen him pick up unanimous decision wins in all three fights, earning himself the vacant European Union welterweight championship over the course of his 3-fight win streak.
McGregor on the other hand would of course be coming into the fight on a 2-fight win streak in the Octagon, which saw him defeat Nate Diaz via majority decision at UFC 202, avenging his UFC 196 loss, and most recently defeat Eddie Alvarez via 2nd round TKO to win the UFC lightweight championship at UFC 205.
