Joe Rogan’s interesting perspective on Conor McGregor vs. Jose Aldo II

In the main event of UFC 194, Conor McGregor shocked the world as he knocked Jose Aldo out cold in just 13 seconds. The win silenced many critics, and saw McGregor crowned as the undisputed UFC featherweight champion.

In the wake of McGregor’s UFC 196 submission loss to Nate Diaz, McGregor stated that he would return to featherweight to defend his championship. With that being said there is much speculation as to whether or not McGregor will defend his belt against Jose Aldo, or Frankie Edgar.

While Jose Aldo reigned over the featherweight division for 5 years, UFC commentator Joe Rogan has some interesting points about why McGregor vs. Aldo II would be a hard sell for the UFC.

He spoke on ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’:

“Frankie Edgar is a way easier sell,” Rogan said Tuesday on his podcast. “Maybe if Aldo comes back and wins in spectacular fashion, like if he and Cub Swanson have a rematch. Because Swanson-Aldo went the same way Aldo and McGregor went. Aldo hits him with a flying knee two seconds into the fight cracks him. Aldo has to win again. You could sell [Aldo-McGregor II], but you wouldn’t sell it for as much as if Aldo won.

“When Manny Pacquiao got knocked dead the Floyd Mayweather fight was off. But then he beats Chris Algieri, looks like a f**king demon again and you go, ‘OK, we can see it again’ and they sold the fight. But if they tried to go right from the Juan Manuel Marquez knockout right into the Floyd Mayweather fight? They would have lost a s**tload of money. A fighter has to win.”

There has still been no word from the UFC brass as to who McGregor will face, however with Rogan’s comments now in mind, who do you think McGregor should defend his featherweight championship against first?
