John Kavanagh: There’s “no excuses” if Conor McGregor loses at UFC 202

After Conor McGregor was handed his first UFC loss at the hands of Nate Diaz back in March at UFC 196, the featherweight champ refused to make excuses for the loss, simply chalking the situation up to an “inefficient use of energy”.

Ahead of the pair’s rematch at UFC 202 on August 20th, McGregor’s coach, John Kavanagh, believes that if his prized pupil loses again, there are no excuses. He explained in an editorial for The42:

“There can be no excuses here if we don’t get the result we’re pursuing,” Kavanagh wrote in a UFC 202 pre-fight blog for The 42.ie. “The preparation has been flawless. But the reassuring thing from our point of view is that I know we won’t need any excuses because it’s not going to come to that.

“This is a very important fight for Conor, but I also feel that my own reputation as a coach is at stake. This contest can be a bit of a game-changer for us all.
