Jose Aldo weighs-in on McGregor-Mayweather superfight
Throughout the course of 2017, reports have continued to surface that UFC superstar Conor McGregor and undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather were progressing closer and closer to eventually having a McGregor-Mayweather superfight.
Mayweather started the year by offering McGregor $15 million for a boxing match, which UFC President Dana White was quick to counter with an offer of his own, offering the undefeated prizefighter $25 million to have a boxing match with Mayweather. Mayweather was quick to laugh off the offer, reiterating that he wouldn’t fight for less than $100 million. McGregor initially remained silent on the matter before revealing in a pay-per view interview that he and Mayweather must sit down in the same room to negotiate if they hope to see the fight become official.
Reports then quickly began to surface that McGregor and Mayweather had reportedly agreed to the monetary terms of the contract, however both Mayweather and UFC President Dana Whiteboth shut down the talks, saying no deal had been reached.
Now, UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo has weighed-in on the fight, as well as McGregor’s claims that he could promote the bout without the UFC.
He spoke to DailyMail.co:
“It will never happen. This will only happen if the UFC wants to. It could be against Mayweather or anyone else, if a fighter has a contract with the UFC, nobody can go over the UFC.”
“McGregor’s reputation is already bruised. The only ones who like him are the Irish people, None else. If you ask in Brazil or in any other country, nobody cheers for him, no one considers him a champion, they always consider him a piece of s***. ”
“There have been some proposals for us to fight again, the UFC has already tried to get us to do the rematch, but he never wanted to. My life does not revolve around him.”
