Manager outlines the options for Conor McGregor’s next fight
Now that Conor McGregor‘s boxing match with Floyd Mayweather Jr in in the rear-view mirror, the whole world is waiting to see what the Irishman does next.
He certainly has plenty of options. He could stick to boxing, where fights with opponents like Paulie Malignaggi, Manny Pacquiao and others could await. He could return to MMA for a trilogy fight with Nate Diaz. He could unify his undisputed UFC lightweight title with the interim lightweight title now owned by Tony Ferguson. Again, he has options abound.
Speaking to Sky Sports (via TheMacLife), McGregor’s manager Audie Attar plunged into the possibilities for his star client. In his opinion, there’s “no question” that the Irishman will ultimately return to MMA.
“As it relates to mixed martial arts, I think Conor has been clear that he wants to come back and fight for the UFC. So there is no question that is going to happen.
“Who that [opponent] is going to be and what is next is still to be determined. We are just starting to talk and explore all the options. But Conor is a draw. He does record-breaking gates and pay-per-views.”
While Attar would like to see McGregor fight Ferguson, who is another one of his clients, he believes the trilogy fight with Nate Diaz could also happen.
“Tony came out victorious,” Attar said. “I represent Tony so I was really happy for Tony to accomplish that. You have the trilogy fight with Nate Diaz.”
And then, of course there are McGregor’s options in the boxing world.
“You even have boxers like Manny Pacquiao knocking on the door,” Attar said.
All in all, Attar simply believes that McGregor has earned the right to choose what comes next. And apparently, he’s currently looking at the many choices available.
“I’ve said this before in many interviews – Conor has earned the right [to choose] and the numbers don’t lie,” he said. “He is weighing his options. He is looking at all the different options and opportunities that are there for him but there is no question that he wants to come back and compete.”
