Nick Diaz weighs-in on Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather
Un just a few short weeks, UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor and undefeated prizefighter Floyd Mayweather will step into the ring together in a highly anticipated showdown.
Ahead of the fight, there has been some drama in the camp of Conor McGregor, as former boxing champion Paul Malignaggi left the camp in the midst of a dispute with the team over photos posted to McGregor’s social media accounts.
Despite that, and many members of the combat sports community giving him a rather slim shot of defeating Mayweather, Nick Diaz does believe the champ has a shot at handing Mayweather his first professional loss.
He spoke to My MMA News:
“As far as MMA, I want to say there’s maybe five guys that do jiu-jitsu that have an actual level of understanding when it comes to boxing. He obviously does. I feel like, if he can hit my brother he can definitely can put up somewhat of a fight with Floyd, if not actually bring him an actual challenge,”
“I don’t know what’s gonna happen. I could say one thing, I could be wrong. Also, the ups and downs of life, you never know what’s going on. Either one of these guys could have a bad – like the last time my brother fought he had broken ribs, torn rib tissue. Neither one of those fights worked out for him. He had 13 days the first time and the next time he was injured. I was there for it.”
This of course also comes on the heels of Mayweather taking to social media to call for he and McGregor to fight in 8oz gloves, something that would give McGregor an obvious advantage in terms of his knockout power given that McGregor is so lethal in 4oz MMA gloves when he competes in the Octagon.
So far no word on whether or not the change in gloves will be finalized.
