As the head coach of Irish superstar Conor McGregor’s, John Kavanagh is tasked with game-planning and training for a fighter who is known to take risks. The Irishman rolled the dice once more and really shook up his preparation for the rematch with Nate Diaz, coach Kavanagh revealed. McGregor spent $300,000 on fight camp leading into his decision victory over Diaz at UFC 202, but not a penny of it appears to have been wasted. The ‘Notorious’ evened the score with Diaz, who had defeated the Irishman by submission back at UFC 196.

They came up with a gameplan for Diaz. In addition to coming up with a gameplan, McGregor brought in several lanky southpaw boxers, and Jiu-Jitsu ace Dillon Danis to prepare for Diaz. In total, McGregor estimated that his training camp cost $300,000.

Now with the money fight over, UFC President Dana White said immediately after the fight that McGregor had two options for his next bout. McGregor was unable to finish Diaz, however he dropped the Stockton fighter several times early on in the fight. Immediately following the fight, McGregor stated that he would do a trilogy fight with Diaz, however it would be at lightweight, where both men were more comfortable.

On the heels of Conor McGregor’s UFC 202 majority decision over Nate Diaz, many wondered what the featherweight champ’s next move would be. Given that McGregor has remained noncommittal about returning to featherweight, despite the fact that UFC President Dana White said he would be forced to vacate the belt if he doesn’t defend it, many are wondering if McGregor could challenge Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight championship.
