UFC star Conor McGregor has reacted to being named the highest-paid athlete in the world over the last year by Forbes. Over the course of the last few years it’s been clear to see that one of Conor McGregor’s last remaining goals has been to reach the top of the Forbes rich list. While he’s come close in the past, this year seems to have been the moment that really saw him strike gold in a big way.

Conor McGregor has been named as the highest-paid athlete in 2021, and he made $22 million for the Dustin Poirier rematch at UFC 257. Forbes reported that in the last 12 months, McGregor has made $180 million total, which makes him the highest-paid athlete in the world. According to the report, McGregor made $150 million when he sold Proper No. Twelve to Proximo Spirits. In addition to that $150 million, McGregor also made $22 million for his rematch against Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 earlier this year, a fight that he lost by knockout. The remaining $8 million that McGregor made came from a combination of his endorsements including Draft Kings, Roots of Fight, and Dystopia: Contest of Heroes. It’s fair to say it’s been a good 12 months for McGregor.

Conor McGregor has confirmed that he plans on moving back up to fight at welterweight as part of his future in the UFC. Throughout the course of his UFC career the Irishman has fought three times at welterweight. He first went 1-1 with Nate Diaz in two enticing 2016 bouts, before eventually returning to the weight class at the start of 2020. In that fight, he dispatched Donald Cerrone with ruthless efficiency in a convincing 40-second success.

UFC superstar Conor McGregor called out Gregor Gillespie over his “best fisherman in MMA remarks,” and then Dustin Poirier also chimed in. Gillespie finished Diego Ferreira in the second round of a back-and-forth fight at UFC Vegas 26 that saw “The Gift” return to the win column for the first time in over two years. With Ferreira coming in overweight, Gillespie was already at a disadvantage right from the start of this fight. But he was able to weather the early storm then take the fight into deep waters and finish Ferreira late in the second round for another fantastic performance.

Conor McGregor decided to send Diego Sanchez a message after witnessing bizarre footage of the former TUF 1 winner training with Joshua Fabia. Early this evening a video surfaced online showing Fabia and Sanchez engaging in some very strange training practices (see that here). The wild footage quickly went viral and eventually made it’s way past former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor.

UFC lightweight superstar Conor McGregor sent a message to rival Dustin Poirier ahead of UFC 264, saying that “you’ve awoken a beast. McGregor returns to the Octagon on July 10 when he takes on Poirier in the third fight between the two bitter rivals. They first met back at UFC 178 in September 2014, with McGregor knocking Poirier out that night in a featherweight bout. Seven years later, they met at UFC 257 in January 2021 and this time, Poirier returned the favor with a second-round TKO. The third fight between these two will decide once and for all who the better fighter is. The stakes are high and this is going to be one of the year’s biggest fights.

UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington blasted Conor McGregor for wanting a title shot at 170lbs, calling the MMA superstar “a joke.” Covington is one of the top-ranked contenders at 170lbs right now and is likely next in line to fight UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman following his big KO win over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 261. However, that hasn’t stopped McGregor from taking to social media recently and suggesting that he will be coming for the welterweight strap soon, despite the fact he is coming off of a TKO loss to a lightweight in Dustin Poirier in his last outing.

UFC lightweight contender Dustin Poirier thanked rival Conor McGregor for his charitable donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Acadiana. Poirier recently took to his social media to reveal that McGregor’s $500,000 donation to “The Good Fight Foundation” never came through despite his team suggesting the money had been sent. McGregor then put Poirier on blast for his comments and threatened to break apart their fight at UFC 264. Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed and the fight remains intact. Still, there was that question about the charity money that McGregor promised floating out there. Now, we know McGregor has made good on his word.

Conor McGregor impersonator handed three year jail sentence for drug trafficking

A drug dealer impersonating Conor McGregor has been handed a three-year jail sentence in relation to drug trafficking charges. Mark Nye, a 34-year-old man from Surrey, was pulled over by police after being caught in possession of Class A drugs in addition to two phones that proved his crimes. When he was pulled over, the police were told his name was “Conor”, before finding business cards that said “McGregor Enterprise” on the front.

UFC lightweight contender Justin Gaethje sent a message to Conor McGregor, telling the superstar that Kamaru Usman would beat him in a fight. On Saturday night at UFC 261, Usman earned another successful title defense when he knocked out rival Jorge Masvidal in the second round of their welterweight title fight. It was an amazing win by Usman and proved once again that he’s the top dog in the UFC at 170lbs. The day after the fight, McGregor took to his social media to say that he wants to go up to welterweight later this year after winning the lightweight belt. McGregor has called out Usman in the past and it’s no surprise to see him the Irishman doing so once again.

Conor McGregor reacted to Chris Weidman’s gruesome injury at UFC 261, saying that it “had to have been damaged over time without knowing.” Weidman’s leg broke on the very first kick he threw against Uriah Hall in their main card fight at UFC 261. It was a nasty injury, one of the worst we have ever seen in the UFC, and ironically was very similar to when the legend Anderson Silva broke his own leg on Weidman’s eight years ago. This leg break from Weidman was arguably worse as you could see the bone break through the skin. It was a horrible injury and we all wish Weidman the best as he will likely have a long road of recovery ahead of him after getting injured.

Conor McGregor has bought the Marble Arch Pub in Dublin 12. Although to many, the name of the pub might not sound familiar, it’s the spot where McGregor notoriously punched the elderly man in 2019. The Irishman was then charged for the incident and according to The Currency, McGregor bought the pub for €1.5 million and €2 million.
