Dustin Poirier would prefer a rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov over a rematch with Conor McGregor, even if there was no UFC title on the line. Poirier fought McGregor in the featherweight division in 2014, losing via first-round knockout. Years later, after establishing himself as one of the greatest lightweights of his era, he battled Nurmagomedov for the lightweight title, losing via third-round submission.

UFC superstar Conor McGregor, who recently retired from MMA, is back in the news again and this time it’s because he called out WWE chairman Vince McMahon. McGregor knocked out Donald Cerrone at UFC 246 back in January and was expected to be next in line to fight for the UFC lightweight title, but numerous factors went against that from happening. The coronavirus pandemic meant that UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov couldn’t fight Tony Ferguson, and Ferguson instead went on to fight and lose to new interim champ Justin Gaethje at UFC 249. The UFC is now planning on Nurmagomedov vs. Gaethje to unify the lightweight belts at UFC 253 in September.

Conor McGregor has issued a brief statement on the death of Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, the father of his arch nemesis Khabib Nurmagomedov. Abdulmanap died in a Moscow hospital this week, succumbing to COVID-19-related complications. There was an immediate outpouring of condolences and well-wishes from many notable members of the MMA community, all of whom recognize the massive influence Abdulmanap had not only on Khabib but many other fighters in Dagestan.
