Conor McGregor is set to return to the Octagon at UFC 246 on January 18 in Las Vegas, where he’ll take on Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. Though both men have enjoyed some of their biggest successes in the lightweight division, this fight will occur at welterweight. The moment it was announced that this fight will go down in the welterweight division, fans began to speculate what McGregor might be plotting. Could he be gunning for recent BMF champ Jorge Masvidal? Could he have his eyes on UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman?

Conor McGregor plans to be ready to step in should Khabib Nurmagomedov or Tony Ferguson withdraw from the UFC 249 main event, scheduled for April 18. Nurmagomedov and Ferguson have been booked to fight four times previous to no avail. While the entire combat sports world is hoping this fifth time will be the charm, there is understandably some pessimism and superstition surrounding the matchup. McGregor shares in those feelings, and is actually expecting one of the two men to withdraw from the fight once again.

Till, who holds a knockout win over Cerrone and has previously called for a fight with McGregor, weighed in on the matchup on Twitter. He encouraged Cerrone and his team not to sleep on McGregor — having heard Cerrone’s coach claim that McGregor has nothing more to offer than a good left hand — and went on to predict McGregor will win early.

UFC president Dana White has confirmed Conor McGregor is on standby in case of an injury to UFC 249 headliners Khabib Nurmagomedov or Tony Ferguson. This is the fifth time that Nurmagomedov and Ferguson have been booked to fight each other after the four previous bookings were canceled due to injuries. This time around the UFC has a fighter on standby just in case sometime happens, and it’s McGregor.

Kavanagh sung McGregor’s praises on Twitter shortly after the Irish star’s last hard sparring session in Ireland. He admitted that he wasn’t sure how McGregor would look when this comeback plan was first mounted, but says fans are in for a “real treat.”

The highly anticipated fight card is set to go down at T-Mobile Arena on January 18 in what is expected to be the event that plays host to Conor McGregor’s return to the Octagon. McGregor, who will compete for the first time since his loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 in October, 2018, will be going toe-to-toe with Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone who will be going in search of the biggest win of his career.

On January 18, former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor will return to the Octagon for a welterweight fight with Donald Cerrone. Ahead of this fight, UFC President Dana White has stated that, if McGregor wins this welterweight battle, he could get the next shot at lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. This possibility has troubled some members of the MMA community for a number of reasons. First, McGregor’s fight with Cerrone is at welterweight, not lightweight. Additionally, McGregor experienced a decisive loss to Nurmagomedov just over a year ago. Lastly and perhaps most controversially, lightweight contender Justin Gaethje is on a three-fight win-streak, and is arguably far more deserving a title shot than McGregor, at least in terms of rankings.
