PHOTO | Conor McGregor compared to Pablo Escobar in street art piece
UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor once said that he looked like Mexican drug lord, “El Chapo” dressed “in his prime.”
Now, it looks like an artistic fan is comparing the Irish mixed martial arts superstar to Colombian drug lord, Pablo Escobar.
In a social media post on Wednesday, “The Notorious” posted a photo of himself standing next to a small street art installation of him replicating the famous police mugshot of Escobar.
McGregor said in the caption, “Pablo half a box hahah #Realbreadheretho.”
Pablo Escobar’s character has been buzzing in pop culture with the help of the popular Netflix series Narcos. Brazilian actor Wagner Moura, who also happens to be a Brazilian jiu-jitsu purple belt stars in the series playing the part of Escobar.
While Escobar found success in the world of crime, McGregor has propelled himself to the top of the mixed martial arts game.
On November 12, “The Notorious” will get his chance to stamp his name in the MMA history books as he challenges UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez for the UFC lightweight title while still holding his UFC featherweight title. If McGregor beats Alvarez at UFC 205 in New York, he will become the first fighter in UFC history to hold two UFC division’s championships titles simultaneously.
McGregor was scheduled to fight for the lightweight title after winning the featherweight title at UFC 194 where he beat Jose Aldo. McGregor and lightweight champion at the time, Rafael dos Anjos, were slated to meet at UFC 197. Unfortunately, dos Anjos pulled out due to injury and Nate Diaz stepped in on late notice to fight McGregor at UFC 196 and give “The Notorious” his first and only UFC loss. McGregor would later get his revenge over Diaz at UFC 202 with a majority decision win and now will get back to his goal of becoming the first simultaneous two-weight UFC world champion.
