After UFC 212, Joe Rogan says Conor McGregor is the best featherweight of all time
Last night, in the main event of UFC 212, Hawaii’s Max Holloway shook up the featherweight division by defeating Jose Aldo via third-round TKO. In doing so, he became one of just two men to defeat Aldo in the UFC or WEC. The other, of course, is Conor McGregor, who knocked Aldo out in just 13 seconds back in 2015.
UFC commentator Joe Rogan, who was not on duty for UFC 212, believes Holloway’s win over Aldo – when combined with the fact that McGregor has beat both him and Aldo – makes McGregor the greatest featherweight of all time. Rogan made this claim on the latest edition of his podcast, which aired during the UFC 212 broadcast.
“I gotta say Conor [McGregor]’s the greatest 145-pounder of all time cause he knocked out Aldo, who was clearly the greatest,” Rogan said (h/t TheMacLife.com). “But in terms of who’s got more victories of course it’s Aldo. He’s got the body of work. The problem is — we’re not doing MMA math here, you’re having two guys actually fight each other. So if you said who is the greatest of all time? ‘Well it would have to be Aldo because he beat all these guys’ — no, no no, because the two of them fought and Conor merked him. So you’ve to give it to him.
“Otherwise there’s no other metric. There’s no other metric other than a knockout. That’s the most important deciding [factor].”
With his impressive defeat of Aldo, Holloway extended his win-streak to a baffling eleven-straight. Highlights of this streak include defeats of stars like Cub Swanson, Charles Oliveira, Jeremy Stephens, Ricardo Lamas, Anthony Pettis, and now Aldo. At just 25, the Hawaiian star is 18-3 overall.
Who do you consider the best featherweight of all time? Is it Jose Aldo, Conor McGregor, Max Holloway, or somebody else?
