VIDEO | Another former champion calls Conor McGregor out to the boxing ring
Former boxing world champion Paulie Malignaggi has been doing his best to lure Conor McGregor into a boxing match with him ever since their fallout from McGregor’s training camp for Floyd Mayweather. Malignaggi is retired from the sport but would be more than happy to get his chance to show the world what he can do against the current UFC lightweight champion in the boxing ring. We’ve seen a few short clips of what McGregor did to Malignaggi during their sparring sessions in the training camp, but haven’t seen Malignaggi’s side to how things went in sparring.
Another former boxing world champion also has McGregor in his sights. Former two division world champion Danny Garcia says “The Notorious” would not stand a chance with him in the ring and that he would finish the Irishman much quicker than Floyd Mayweather did.
“I want that fight,” said Garcia when told that Conor McGregor would like to box again. “Danny Garcia vs Conor McGregor, let’s make that happen.
“He ain’t going 10 rounds with me, I’m a seek and destroy type fighter,” Garcia continued. “I’m one of the type of fighters you want to run from when you fight, it ain’t going past four.”
“I know I can knock him out,” Garcia said when asked if he thinks he can knock McGregor out. “I can knock anybody out that I step in the ring with.”
Danny Garcia holds a 33-1 professional boxing record with 19 wins coming by way of KO and is coming off the first loss of his career to Keith Thurman. Thurman took a split decision win over Garcia taking the WBC and WBA welterweight titles earlier this year in March. Garcia happens to hold a win over Paulie Malignaggi, taking their 2015 fight winning by TKO in the ninth round.
