VIDEO | Relive the Moments that Led to Alvarez vs. McGregor at UFC 205
Next Saturday, the UFC will make its long awaited debut in glimmering New York City, New York with UFC 205. The card, which will emanate from the combat sports Mecca of Madison Square Garden, will be headlined by a lightweight title fight between reigning divisional champion Eddie Alvarez, and current featherweight king Conor McGregor. If McGregor is able to defeat the wickedly tough lightweight champion, he’ll become the first fighter in UFC history to hold two titles in two weight classes concurrently. Needless to say, this fight is a big one.
In advance of UFC 205, the folks over MMAFighting.com have assembled an awesome video that retraces the roads that led Alvarez and McGregor to this potentially history making showdown. This video rewinds all the way back to McGregor’s incredible knockout win over Marcus Brimage in his UFC debut, and Alvarez’s title winning defeat of Michael Chandler in what would go down as his final fight under the Bellator banner. From there, it retraces the two fighters’ respective rises through the UFC ranks, as they slowly but surely transformed from contenders to champions. In addition to its Alvarez vs. McGregor main event, UFC 205 will also feature two other title fights. The first will see new welterweight champion Tyron Woodley attempt to make the first defense of his title against streaking contender Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. The other will see dominant strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk attempt the fourth defense of her crown against fellow undefeated Polish fighter Karolina Kowalkiewicz.
Outside of this trio of title fights, UFC 205’s main card will also see former champions Miesha Tate and Chris Weidman attempt to rebound from the losses of their respective titles against Raquel Pennington and Yoel Romero respectively. It will also feature a welterweight bout between The Ultimate Fighter 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum, and former lightweight title challenger Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone.
It all goes down this coming Saturday inside Madison Square Garden.
