VIDEO| “Sugar” Shane Mosley is confident he’d KO Conor McGregor in a boxing match
Add former three-weight boxing champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley to the long list of boxers confident they’d dominate UFC star Conor McGregor in the boxing ring.
In a recent interview with TMZ, the aging talent patiently fielded questions about an extremely hypothetical showdown with McGregor, and assured that he’d beat him in a boxing match. That said, Mosley also acknowledged he’d have little chance against McGregor in an MMA bout.
“As a boxer, yeah definitely,” he said when asked if he’d beat McGregor. “I wouldn’t do anything as an MMA fighter, but as a boxer, oh yeah, definitely.”
“I believe so,” Mosley continued when asked if he’d knock McGregor out. “I believe I have the speed, the power to [knock out] anybody.”
Mosley, who is now 45 years old, also assured that age wouldn’t be a factor in this prospective boxing match.
“Well, I just fought for a world title as a boxer,” he said. “So I think I could do it.”
If McGregor does delve into the world of boxing, Mosley would almost certainly not be his opponent. Given this, the boxer was asked to take a step back and assess McGregor’s chances in the boxing arena.
“I think in an MMA type of fight, he can [back up the talk],” he said. “But in a boxing arena, it’s gonna be different, just like when James Toney went over to MMA and tried to do MMA. He got choked out real quick. It’s a different arena. I think McGregor’s going to find out it’s a different arena when it comes to boxing.”
When we last saw McGregor in action, he knocked out Eddie Alvarez to win the UFC lightweight title. Because he held the UFC featherweight title at the time, this made him the first fighter in UFC history to hold titles in two weight classes concurrently.
