Cris Cyborg believes fight with Tonya Evinger will be more exciting than Megan Anderson

Tuesday night it was revealed that Megan Anderson, who was set to fight Cris Cyborg for the vacant women’s featherweight championship, had been forced out of the fight due to “personal reasons”.

Evinger then stepped in to fight Cris Cyborg for the vacant title, and while the fight community is still processing that fight, Cyborg believes that a fight with Evinger will actually be more thrilling than one with Megan Anderson.

She sent a statement in Portuguese to Combate, which has been translated to English by MMAJunkie:

“I’m always training to evolve technically with each fight,” the statement, in her native Portuguese, reads. “I’m prepared to fight anyone. As for the change in opponent, we can say it’s the result of Megan’s and her manager’s irresponsibility. As for Tonya, she’s a great opponent. She’s been winning her past 10 fights and is an example of how the world rankings should be independent from the UFC’s rankings.

“Tonya is a top-10 bantamweight and certainly deserves to be in a big platform. It will be a great fight and I believe that, with Tonya, it will be an even more exciting fight for the fans than the fight with Megan. The focus and the plan remain the same: going for the belt. Thank you to all my fans #CyborgNation.”

Cyborg also posted a message on her Twitter immediately following Anderson’s withdrawal, revealing that she will no longer be posting sparring videos on her social media account given that she had posted a video of herself sparring with Olympic boxing champion Clarissa Shields. The Tweet was of course a jab at Anderson who Cyborg likely believes is ducking her after Anderson withdrew from the fight just hours after the sparring video was posted.
