Cris Cyborg sets her sights on Holly Holm, Dana White comments on possible fight

Cris Cyborg is finally a UFC champion. After years of waiting, the Brazilian bomber got her chance to fight for the vacant UFC women’s featherweight title opposite Tonya Evinger in one of three title fights on Saturday’s UFC 214 bill. Cyborg won her title with a third-round TKO.

From here, it’s difficult to say what might be next for Cyborg, as the UFC women’s featherweight division is notoriously short on talent. While Megan Anderson – Cyborg’s originally planned UFC 214 opponent – seems like an option, however, Cyborg herself is interested in a scrap with former women’s bantamweight champ Holly Holm.

Cyborg made her callout of Holm, who fought for UFC featherweight gold against Germaine de Randamie earlier this year, at the UFC post-fight press conference.

“My next move I would like to fight Holly Holm,” Cyborg said (h/t Sherdog.com). “I think she is a great fighter, and she is a bigger girl like me. She’s fought already at 145. I think it’s a fight the fans will like because she’s a striker. Let’s do that, maybe next. I don’t know.”

Apparently, this is also a fight that interests UFC President Dana White. White commented on this prospective scrap at the UFC 214 post-fight press conference.

“I was just talking to Holly Holm…It seems like she’s interested,” he said. “I like Holly vs. Cyborg. I think it’s a good fight.”

White also commented on Cyborg’s defeat of Evinger, which saw her lean on a more measured approach then usual.

“Cyborg looked good. She was very composed,” he. “She didn’t go out there crazy. She picked her shots, took her time.”

Holm was last seen in the cage in June, when she rebounded from a three-fight losing-streak with a thudding head-kick knockout of Bethe Correia.
