Dana White: Cris Cyborg is definitely fighting at UFC 214 in Anaheim
The last time we saw Cris Cyborg compete was at UFC Fight Night 95 in September of last year. Cyborg took out Lina Lansberg by TKO in a 140-pound catchweight main event fight in Brazil.
With the UFC women’s featherweight division in shambles with the inaugural champion Germaine de Randamie not willing to fight Cyborg claiming she “is a known and proven cheater,” the newly opened UFC division is in a bit of a pickle.
Despite the situation with the women’s 145-pound division, UFC President Dana White did state on the UFC Unfiltered podcast recently that Cris Cyborg will be fighting at UFC 214 in July.
“Cris ‘Cyborg’ is definitely fighting on the July 29 card in Anaheim,” said White (transcribed by MMA Junkie). However, when asked who Cyborg would be fighting on the card, White did not have an opponent he could name. “We’re still working on it,” said the UFC President.
One potential opponent is former UFC women’s bantamweight title challenger Cat Zingano. Zingano recently stated that there has been talk regarding a potential fight against Cyborg.
Cris Cyborg holds a 17-1-1 professional MMA record. Cyborg’s single loss was in her professional MMA debut back in 2005 and has gone on to be a dominant force in women’s mixed martial arts winning titles in Strikeforce and Invicta. Cyborg is currently 2-0 in the UFC with both fights being 140-pound catchweight fights.
Prior to making her way to the UFC, Cyborg fought under the Invicta promotion, winning the 145-pound featherweight title back in July of 2013 by defeating Marloes Coenen via fourth-round TKO. Cyborg would go on to defend the Invicta featherweight title three times before making her way to the UFC.
