BREAKING | Cub Swanson Teases He Won’t Be a Free Agent Much Longer
The last time Cub Swanson fought in the Octagon, it was his last fight on his UFC contract. The ideal would to have been to put on a vintage Swanson performance and get the win, but it didn’t go his way against Brian Ortega that night at UFC Fresno. Despite losing his last fight, Dana White told Cub Swanson they’d make a deal. After supposedly entertaining offers at several other fighting organizations, Swanson seems near to making a deal according to this comment on his Instagram. …But with who?
“I can’t make a decision until I know what the other offers are. Not many big players stay around all that long. I should have just avoided [going to the ground with Brian Ortega] altogether. He would have been done. I had him on punches but gave him an opportunity, and he took it. The negotiations, it’s not about having fancy cars or anything It’s about having financial stability for my family’s future. That’s it.” — Cub Swanson speaking to MMA Junkie.

“[The loss at UFC Fresno] stings. It just gets thrown back in your face, ‘You don’t win the big ones.’ So, it’s like, what am I going to say? I’m sure we’ll negotiate. Dana [White] said ‘let’s make a deal’ from outside the cage. But do I got to crawl back and say, ‘OK, I’ll take that deal I said no to?’ We’ll see. I’m going to enjoy family over Christmas and all that and try not to be in low spirits. I thought I fought great. I just didn’t get the ending I wanted.” — Cub Swanson speaking to MMA Junkie.
Cub Swanson is right. There aren’t a lot of big players. Swanson most likely has been courted by RIZIN, Bellator and the UFC. He event attended a Bellator card last month, presumably also to talk to Scott Coker and share it online as a subtle nod to the UFC that he has other offers. Although, he did offer to step up and fight Nate Diaz to save UFC 222. It’ll be interesting to see where Cub Swanson ends up, but wherever it is, we hope he gets the deal he and his family deserves.
