Dan Hooker vs. Gilbert Burns added to stacked UFC 226 bill

By Tom Taylor - May 20, 2018

UFC 226, which already stands out as the most stacked card of the year thus far, keeps getting better. The latest dynamite booking to be added to the lineup is a lightweight scrap pitting New Zealand’s Dan Hooker against Brazil’s Gilbert Burns.

This bout was first reported by Stuff.

Hooker will enter this fight on an impressive three-fight streak, composed of a knee-induced knockout of Ross Pearson, a submission of Marc Diakiese, and yet another knee-induced knockout of Jim Miller. His last loss occurred in November of 2016, when he gave up a decision to Jason Knight. Hooker is 16-7 overall, and 6-3 in the Octagon.

Burns, meanwhile, is on an impressive streak of his own. Though he is known for his world class Brazilian jiu-jitsu, both of his latest wins have been thunderous one-punch knockouts, which is undeniably thanks to his work with renowned kickboxing coach Henri Hooft. Burns’s last loss occured in September of 2016 when he lost a decision to fellow Brazilian Michel Prazeres. He’s 14-2 overall, 6-2 in the Octagon.

UFC 226 will be headlined by a heavyweight title super fight between divisional champion Stipe Miocic, and reigning UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier. The card will also feature a featherweight title fight, as champion Max Holloway takes on surging contender Brian “T-City” Ortega.

Other features of the stacked UFC 226 card include a heavyweight showdown between Francis Ngannou and Derrick Lewis, a light heavyweight bout between Gokhan Saki and Khalil Rountree, a bantamweight bout between Rob Font and Raphael Assuncao, a welterweight bout between Yancy Medeiros and Mike Perry, a middleweight bout between Uriah Hall and Paulo Costa, and a lightweight bout between Anthony Pettis and Michael Chiesa. As stated above, the card is stacked. It all goes down July 7 in Last Vegas, Nevada.
