Dana White gives update on Jose Aldo’s standoff with UFC brass

When it was announced that Conor McGregor would be fighting Eddie Alvarez for the UFC lightweight championship at UFC 205, rather than defending his UFC featherweight championship in a rematch against Jose Aldo, who secured a rematch with McGregor when he defeated Frankie Edgar at UFC 200 for the interim featherweight championship, Aldo requested his release from the promotion, expressing a lack of faith in the UFC.

UFC President Dana White was quick to shut Aldo down, stating that the promotion would be able to book him a fight at UFC 205 as well. Despite that, Aldo fired back by saying that he doesn’t want a fight, and plans to retire from MMA so as to pursue a career in another professional sport.

Since then, there has been no word as to the status of Aldo’s standoff with the UFC, however his manager stated that the interim champ would be willing to take the UFC to court over the matter.

This week, Aldo revealed that he would be willing to throw fights in order to complete the remainder of his UFC contract.

During an appearance on UFC Tonight, Dana White spoke about the situation, saying:

“I can’t make anybody fight anybody. I can do the best I can to put together fights, and make em happen. Jose Aldo & I will get together, probably next week, and we’ll talk about this. I think he’s…I think he’s being a little ridiculous about this. I’ll get him a fight. I’ll get him a fight all day long. If you look at that division, it’s stacked. Holloway’s ready, he’s ready to fight. Anthony Pettis is in that division now. There’s a lot of talented guys there that he can fight. I can’t make Conor McGregor fight anybody. Obviously everyone wants the fight, I’m waiting for Joanna Jedrzejczyk to call out Conor McGregor next! Everybody wants to fight Conor!”
