Dana White reveals venue and contracted weight for Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor

It has now been made official. Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor will fight in the boxing ring this August 26 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Yet according to UFC President Dana White, who was heavily involved in the negotiation process for this massive mega fight, the initial reports of this unprecedented crossover fight got the venue wrong. The fight will not occur at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, but at Las Vegas’ new T-Mobile Arena.

White made this announcement during a Wednesday evening appearance on SportsCenter.

During his interview on Sports Center, the UFC boss also shared a very key detail of the fight itself: the contracted weight. Though previous rumors suggested the fight would occur somewhere just south of 150 pounds, it will apparently be contested 154 pounds.

Given the gruelling cut McGregor endured to make the featherweight division’s 145-pound cap, and the apparent ease he has making the lightweight division’s 155-pound limit, this is undeniably good news for the Irishman. He will be the significantly larger man in the ring, and will not have to deal with a taxing cut before the fight.

Against a boxer of Mayweather’s caliber, the mixed martial artist will need all the advantages he can get.
