Dana White issues classic response to rumors about Mayweather vs. McGregor rematch rule-set

The chatter surrounding a possible Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor rematch in the Octagon continues.

One of the latest rumors in this ongoing narrative surrounds the potential rule-set for this potential Octagon rematch.

According to Omar Al Raisi of The Sports Journal, this McGregor vs. Mayweather rematch will indeed occur into the Octagon, where the two stars will fight barefoot, in four-ounce gloves, for five, five-minute rounds in the 155-pound lightweight division. Furthermore, kicks, knees and elbows will be outlawed, but the clinch will be allowed.

Al Raisi later added that this rumored rematch will be co-promoted by Mayweather Promotions, the UFC and McGregor Entertainment.

It did not take long for these rumors to reach the ears of UFC President Dana White. And he responded in his typical style.

“None of that is even close to true,” White said of these undeniably far-fetched rumors on Twitter. “Dumbest shit I have ever heard.”

Mayweather and McGregor’s first showdown occurred in the boxing ring last August. On that fateful night, Mayweather wore McGregor down to a 10th-round TKO.

Since then, rumors about a potential rematch in McGregor’s domain—the Octagon—have been rampant. Mayweather himself has had a major hand in these rumors, suggesting on multiple occasions that he’s keen to try his hand at mixed martial arts.

These rumors were thrust into overdrive when it was revealed that Mayweather would be working, on some level, with UFC welterweight champ Tyron Woodley to prepare for this rumored rematch.

“I’m going to start soon,” Mayweather said of his work with Woodley in a recent interview with TMZ. “We’ve been texting back and forth. We talked a couple times, but we’re going to start working out real soon.”

“I can wrestle,” he added. “My wrestling game is not that bad. On a scale from one to 10, I would say it’s probably a seven. We can take it up to a nine, if possible. Of course my hand game, on a scale of one to 10, it’s 100. The kicking game, on a scale from one to 10, it’s probably a four. We have to tweak a few things to take things to the next level.”
