Dana White updates on planned meeting with Conor McGregor, McGregor’s next fight

Dana White was supposed to meet with former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor in Liverpool this weekend. Unfortunately, however, this plan fell through.

Having failed to link up with McGregor in the UK, White now hopes to meet with the MMA star stateside sometime in the near future.

“Conor and I are going to meet in Vegas,” White said on Sunday at the UFC Liverpool post-fight press conference (h/t MMAFighting). “He and I haven’t seen each since New York. So we haven’t seen each other, we haven’t talked, nothing, so we need to get together soon.”

At present, McGregor is neck deep in the complicated legal situation stemming from his berserk rampage in Brooklyn, during which he threw a dolly through the window of a bus carrying several UFC 223 fighters, injuring Michael Chiesa and Ray Borg with enough severity that they were pulled from the card. Given McGregor’s legal situation, White isn’t sure what the future holds for the Irishman.

“It depends on what goes on with him [at his court date] in New York in June,” White said.

“We can’t determine anything about what’s next for him until June is cleared up.”

While White doesn’t know what the future holds for McGregor, he does feel that a fight between McGregor and new UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is probably the most likely option on the table. It is, after all, the fight both stars seem to want.

“I’m pretty confident that that is the fight that Conor wants, and I’m pretty confident that that is the fight that Khabib wants,” White explained. “So, yeah, I could see that happening.”

Conor McGregor has not fought since he came up short in an August 2017 boxing match with Floyd Mayweather. His last MMA bout occurred in November of 2016, when he knocked out Eddie Alvarez to win the UFC lightweight title.
