Dana White: “Conor McGregor’s foot is hurt, I want him to fight Aldo.”
Fight fans are eagerly awaiting news on current UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor’s next fight.
Most people presumed that the Irish star would return at November’s highly anticipated UFC 205 event in New York, where he was expected to challenge current UFC lightweight title holder Eddie Alvarez for the promotions 155-pound title.
However, UFC Tonight recently reported that McGregor was injured and unable to compete at the historic event, which takes place November 12 at Madison Square Garden.
That report was quickly refuted by members of Conor McGregor’s team who claimed that the featherweight champion was in good health and ready to compete against Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205.
While all these conflicting reports were surfacing, top UFC lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov came forward and stated that he had been offered a lightweight title fight with Eddie Alvarez by UFC officials. Nurmagomedov even produced photos of two different signed contracts to fight Alvarez, one for UFC 205 in New York as well as one for UFC 206 in Toronto.
Meanwhile, Eddie Alvarez continued to campaign for a fight with McGregor, seemingly ignoring the constant trash talk from Khabib.
According to a recent report from Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports, UFC President Dana White says that McGregor’s foot is actually hurt and that he wants to see Conor rematch Jose Aldo in a featherweight title unification bout at a later date.
“Conor’s foot is hurt, but he thinks he can fight,” White stated. “I want him to fight Aldo.”
McGregor and Aldo first met at UFC 194 where “Mystic Mac” scored a thirteen-second knockout victory over the long time featherweight kingpin.
Since then, McGregor has competed in two fights at welterweight (170-pounds) against Nate Diaz. Conor lost the first fight with Diaz at UFC 196 via submission, but rebounded by earning a majority decision victory over the Stockton native at last month’s UFC 202 event in Las Vegas.
Meanwhile, Jose Aldo returned to action at July’s blockbuster UFC 200 event, where he scored a unanimous decision victory over Frankie Edgar to claim the promotions interim featherweight title.
The UFC will be holding a press conference for UFC 205 this Tuesday where they will introduce all of the stars scheduled for the historic event.
As of right now, the UFC 205 event in New York would be headlined by a welterweight title fight between current champ Tyron Woodley and number one contender Stephen Thompson.
