Dana White will be ‘Super Pissed’ if GSP Doesn’t Defend Title

There’s no shortage of contenders in the UFC’s middleweight division. Former champions Luke Rockhold and Chris Weidman are still considered to be at the top of the heap while dangerous contenders such as Kelvin Gastelum and Yoel Romero wait for a signature win to earn the chance to fight for the belt.

Unfortunately, the middleweight title picture is a bit of a mess. Current champion, Georges St-Pierre, hasn’t even been the champ for a month but the pressure is already on for him to confirm that he will return to the division to defend his title.

St-Pierre left the Octagon for four years following a tough UFC 167 win which left the division in disarray.

UFC president, Dana White, hopes that St-Pierre won’t do the same now that he’s once again champion. While speaking with ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, White stated that he would be ‘super pissed’ if GSP decides not to return to middleweight to defend the belt:

Asked Dana White today what happens if Georges St-Pierre says he won’t defend the 185 title. “I will be super pissed and I don’t know where we go from there.”

A man who is perhaps more eager for St-Pierre’s return than Dana White is one UFC interim middleweight champion Robert Whittaker, who won the interim belt in a fight with Yoel Romero while they waited for the GSP vs. Michael Bisping fight was made. Whittaker would be the logical next challenger for St-Pierre but given the events in the last year, that fight is far from guaranteed.

St-Pierre has been noncommittal regarding a return to the UFC, let alone a return to middleweight as St-Pierre made his initial run in the UFC at 170 pounds. St-Pierre has the most wins in UFC history with the help of his TKO victory over Bisping and is just the fourth man in UFC history to hold belts in two different weight classes.
