UFC 259 to go down in Las Vegas with contest-winning fans in attendance

The stacked UFC 259 pay-per-view will go down in Las Vegas, Nevada, and with a small number of fight fans in attendance. UFC 259 goes down on March 6, and immediately stands out as one of the promotion’s biggest pay-per-views of the year. The card will be topped by a whopping three title fights, as middleweight champion Israel Adesanya challenges light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz in the main event, and Petr Yan and Amanda Nunes defend the men’s bantamweight and women’s featherweight titles against Aljamain Sterling and Megan Anderson respectively.

Retired UFC star Ben Askren has revealed that he had to ask permission from Dana White in order to get the green light for his Jake Paul fight. Askren and Paul are set to lock horns in an eight-round boxing fight on April 17 as the YouTuber attempts to continue his rise to prominence in combat sports.

UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov praised UFC president Dana White, telling the promoter “I have so much respect for you.” Nurmagomedov is currently in a quasi-retirement. The Russian told White that he wanted to watch UFC 257 and see if anyone really made a statement on the card, but he has made no guarantee he will fight again. At this point, it’s up in the air, but signs are pointing towards him retiring for good. If that’s the case, then he’s exiting on the best possible terms. Taking to his social media following UFC 257, Nurmagomedov shared a post where he praised White and encouraged fans to give him more credit.

UFC president Dana White scolded lightweight Michael Chandler for his celebratory backflip, saying “somebody’s going to get f*cking hurt.” Following his KO win over Dan Hooker in the co-main event of UFC 257, newly-minted UFC lightweight contender Chandler did a backflip off the top of the Octagon fence, and it appeared he had hurt his ankles on the way down. Thankfully he’s fine, but it could have been potentially been really bad had he landed the wrong way, and it had White worried. Chandler is certainly not the first fighter to do a backflip to celebrate — Justin Gaethje also does it on the regular — but every time a fighter does a backflip, it leaves White wincing.

UFC president Dana White shared the most likely scenario that would happen if UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov vacates his belt. On Saturday night at UFC 257, Dustin Poirier knocked out Conor McGregor in brutal fashion in the second round to pick up a massive upset win. As well, Michael Chandler had an incredible UFC debut in the co-main event when he knocked out Octagon veteran Dan Hooker. Along with Charles Oliveira, these are the fighters who are currently vying for a fight with Nurmagomedov. But the opportunity to fight the champ might not come if he vacates his title.

Rap mogul Eminem had the mixed martial arts world buzzing on Thursday after a video surfaced of him dissing UFC president Dana White. In the video, Eminem and Dana White were featured on SportsCenter where ‘Slim Shady’ proceeded to tell the brash UFC boss that his “opinion doesn’t matter”.
