Dana White defends Max Rohskopf’s decision to stop fighting: “Who the f**k is anybody to judge him on that?”

UFC President Dana White has defended Max Rohskopf’s decision to give up during his debut at UFC on ESPN 11. The lightweight newcomer made his first Octagon appearance on 20 June against Austin Hubbard. The fight didn’t go according to plan for Rohskopf as he came out fast but failed to secure any submission attempts. His opponent used a barrage of strikes to push forward which resulted in Rohskopf heading back to his corner with blood streaming down his face. The 25-year old told his team he could not continue, but his chief cornerman Robert Drysdale tried to convince him otherwise. Rohskopf stuck to his guns and the referee Mark Smith ultimately waved the fight off. Austin Hubbard walked away with the second-round TKO win by retirement.
Dana White was not overly impressed by Curtis Blaydes' performance against Alexander Volkov

UFC president Dana White criticized heavyweight contender Curtis Blaydes for his performance during his victory over Alexander Volkov at UFC on ESPN 11. Blaydes was able to win a unanimous decision with scores of 49-46, 48-47 and 48-46 over Volkov as he used his wrestling to take his opponent down at will and control him on the mat. However, Blaydes was not able to get the finish despite having so much top control time on the mat, and not only that but he looked exhausted in the last two rounds. Despite some scares late in the fight, he was still able to get his hand raised.
Dana White confirms Adesanya vs. Costa and Miocic vs. Cormier 3: “The fights we have lined up for summer are just awesome!”

UFC president Dana White confirmed Stipe Miocic vs. Daniel Cormier 3 as well as a middleweight title fight between Israel Adesanya and Paulo Costa. The UFC has a number of high-profile fights lined up this summer, including Kamaru Usman vs. Gilbert Burns headlining UFC 251 on Fight Island in July, plus a really exciting middleweight fight between rivals Darren Till and Robert Whittaker planned for later this summer. The UFC intends on holding four shows at Fight Island in July before heading back to the UFC Apex in its home base of Las Vegas, Nevada, in August.

UFC president Dana White says the world’s top MMA promotion is bracing for a second shutdown due to a potential second wave this fall of COVID-19. Despite all odds against them, the UFC has been pulling off shows since May even with the coronavirus still infecting people all over in the world and especially in the United States. White has remained adamant for months that the show would go on for the UFC and the promotion has made good on that promise with a number of shows in Florida in May and more in Las Vegas in June. The UFC is also planning for a number of events on Fight Island in Abu Dhabi this July and back in Vegas in August.

UFC President Dana White doubts the women’s featherweight division would survive if it reigning champion Amanda Nunes retires. Nunes, who also holds the UFC women’s bantamweight belt, is widely regarded as the best female fighter of all time. Shortly after her recent title defense against Felicia Spencer, she divulged that she’s considering retirement.
San Antonio shooting suspect arrested, not affiliated with the UFC

Law enforcement has arrested a suspect in relation to a San Antonio shooting on June 12, 2020. The alleged gunman injured eight people, five women and three men between the ages of 23 and 41. He also claimed to be a UFC fighter, but it has been confirmed that he is not, in fact, affiliated with the promotion. According to a report by the San Antonio Police Department, Jenelius Crew, 37, was taken into custody on June 18. Homicide detectives collected evidence through the course of the investigation which lead them to gather more information on the suspect. The police then obtained eight Aggravated Assault/Deadly Weapon arrest warrants for Crew.

UFC President Dana White says that streaking UFC heavyweight Francis Ngannou contender could serve as an alternate for the upcoming title fight between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier. Miocic and Cormier have fought twice previously. Cormier won the pair’s first bout, in 2018, by first-round knockout, claiming the heavyweight title for himself. Miocic then swiped the title back from Cormier in their 2019 rematch, surviving some early adversity to win via fourth-round TKO. The pair are scheduled to meet for a third time at UFC 252 on August 15.

With the UFC’s outfitting deal with Reebok potentially coming to an end, the UFC could sign a deal with a new outfitting company. Dana White has a few ideas in mind. Making an appearance on The Schmozone podcast with The Schmo and Helen Yee, the UFC boss was asked about the deal with Reebok coming to an end and who might possibly be next in line to be the uniform sponsor for the UFC.

UFC President Dana White isn’t sure what to do with former UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva; one of the greatest fighters in MMA history. Silva, who is now 45 years old, has lost his last two fights, first losing a decision to reigning UFC middleweight champ Israel Adesanya, then losing via TKO to Jared Cannonier as the result of a leg injury. Those losses were preceded by a tight decision win over Derek Brunson, and a string of four straight losses to Daniel Cormier, Michael Bisping and Chris Weidman (twice).

UFC President Dana White is looking at options to get fans back to UFC events, but he’s not willing to compromise with socially-distanced crowds. White has been able to promote multiple events since the coronavirus pandemic began. Several occurred in Jacksonville, Florida, and the most recent have occurred inside the UFC Apex facility. Several more will occur on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi in July. None have or will welcome fans.

UFC President Dana White has taken another shot at boxing promoter Bob Arum, this time criticizing the ratings for Top Rank’s recent return to ESPN. Top Rank returned to ESPN early last week, just a few days before the UFC’s most recent card.

UFC president Dana White believes that UFC women’s double champion Amanda Nunes doesn’t get as much respect as she should get “because she’s a woman.” When it comes to the topic of the GOAT in mixed martial arts, typically the names that are brought up by pundits include the likes of Jon Jones, Georges St-Pierre, Anderson Silva, Demetrious Johnson, and Conor McGregor, to name a few. It’s rare to see any women included in the discussion, even someone as dominant as Nunes is. Most analysts have Nunes atop their women’s MMA GOAT list, but not their overall GOAT list in MMA.

UFC president Dana White responded to fans who criticized last night’s UFC on ESPN 10 card, which didn’t feature many big names or ranked fighters on it. White and the UFC were heavily criticized for the lineup for last night’s card, which featured a main event between women’s flyweights Jessica Eye and Cynthia Calvillo. Eye, Calvillo, and men’s flyweight Jordan Espinosa were the only fighters on the card with a ranking beside their name, which led many fans and media to criticize the card as being weak and lacking depth.

UFC light heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones is weighing his options following failed negotiations with his current employer, the UFC. A couple of weeks ago, ‘Bones’ expressed interest in moving up a weight class to take on feared knockout artist Francis Ngannou. Unfortunately for fight fans, negotiations for the fight broke down and shortly after Jones suggested he was considering taking a hiatus from MMA.
