Dana White expects Middle Eastern UFC champ soon

This Saturday, the UFC will touch down in Abu Dhabi with UFC 242. While the card features several Middle Eastern fighters, there has yet to be a UFC champion from the region. UFC President Dana White believes that will change soon. The UFC boss believes the UFC could have a Middle Eastern titleholder within the next six or seven years.

UFC President Dana White heaped praise at the newly crowned UFC strawweight champion Weili Zhang during today’s post-fight press conference in Shenzhen. Zhang defeated Jessica Andrade in just 42-seconds (watch that here) to capture the promotions coveted 115-pound title in today’s headliner. In doing so, Weili became the first Chinese champion in UFC history and also extended her current win streak to twenty in a row.

The sensational victory improved Zhang’s current win streak to twenty in a row and immediately resulted in comparisons to women’s MMA icon Ronda Rousey.

Paige VanZant has one fight left on her UFC contract, and when that’s over and done with, she intends to test free agency. The reason for this decision is that she believes she deserves more money. In fact, she claims she makes more money posting to her Instagram account than she does through fighting. “With endorsements, I make way more money sitting at home posting pictures on Instagram than I do fighting,” VanZant said during an appearance on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show. “If I were to stop everything I do outside of fighting and just fight, I would be at a loss. By a long shot.”

After losing to Stipe Miocic in the main event of UFC 241 on Saturday night, however, Cormier’s has plummeted six spots in those same rankings — despite picking up a first-round knockout over Miocic a little over a year go. UFC President Dana White thinks that’s “f**king insane,” and is very unhappy with the members of the MMA media who vote on the official UFC rankings.
